Company performs New Work "Underground" in the Brooklyn Academy of Music's NextWave Festival
underground
underground evokes the violent social upheaval of 1960s America. Inspired by the revolutionary message of the Weather Underground, this provocative piece juxtaposes the idealism of an activist generation now aged into the establishment with the ambivalence of today's mainstream youth culture.
Nine core members of David Dorfman Dance joined by twenty-five guest dancers form a phalanx accompanied by an ardent sound score. Their fifty-minute dance is alternately frenetic and transcendent.
Integrating compelling documentary film footage and photographs projected upon the imposing set, underground is a sweeping monument to the spirit of political upheaval and social change.
